The short version
We collect the minimum needed to run Repo Explainer. We do not sell your information or use it for advertising. We do not keep the code you paste or the answers you receive.
What we collect
GitHub sign-in: your GitHub user ID, username and the date your GitHub account was created. We do not ask GitHub for your email address, your private repositories or any permission to change anything.
Usage records: how many credits you have used and when, linked to your GitHub user ID.
Your agreement: the date you agreed to our policies and which version you agreed to, kept as proof of consent while you use the Service and for up to 3 years after.
Network address: used to prevent abuse, such as limiting requests per minute. Our limit records store a scrambled version, not the address itself. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs.
Payments, once Pro launches: Stripe handles payments, and we never see your full card number. We keep your Stripe customer and subscription IDs, your plan status and your billing dates.
Repositories and code: the public repository link you submit and any code you paste are sent to our AI provider to create your answer. We do not store them afterward.
How AI processing works
We use the OpenAI API. Before code is sent, our server hides anything that looks like a password or key. Requests are sent with storage turned off, and OpenAI states that it does not train its models on API data. OpenAI may keep data for a limited time to detect abuse. We send OpenAI a scrambled identifier, never your name or username, so it can help detect misuse.
Service providers
GitHub (sign-in and public project data), OpenAI (AI answers), Stripe (payments) and Netlify (hosting, storage and cookie-free analytics). They process information for us under their own privacy policies.
Cookies
We use two essential cookies and no advertising or tracking cookies. See the Cookie Policy for details.
How long we keep it
Sign-in cookie: 30 days, or until you sign out.
Daily usage and rate-limit records: removed within about 90 days.
Subscription records: while you have a plan, and afterward for as long as tax and accounting rules require.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information by emailing privacy@parquemedia.com. We will respond within 30 days, or within the time your state's law requires. Deleting your information may end any Pro access.
You can remove Repo Explainer's access at any time in your GitHub settings, under Applications.
Residents of some states, such as California, have specific privacy rights. We honor these requests for every user, wherever they live in the US. We do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising.
Security
We use encrypted connections, signed cookies and server-only keys, and we keep as little information as possible. No system is perfect. Please report security problems to security@parquemedia.com.
Children
Repo Explainer is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has used the Service, contact privacy@parquemedia.com and we will delete their information.
United States only
The Service is offered only in the United States, and information is processed in the United States.
